John and William Neale の1726年の曲集に初めて収録されその後 George Petrie の手書き冊子には～Separation of Soul and Body, Carolan 氏より寄贈～と記されてある。タイトルの真意ははっきりしないがその曲調からエレジ－（哀歌）的なテ－マを持つ曲ではないだろうか。

初出は Edward Bunting (1773～1843)の手書き冊子より。タイトル名の人物はロスコモン州に土地を所有していた Mrs.Morton の一族に属していたのではないかと思われる。
